Our Mission

The Universal School espouses the ideal of academic and spiritual excellence. Our curriculum is designed to educate the whole student by addressing development of the moral, physical, spiritual and social qualities of each student. The school strives to instill in our students the commitment to their being lifelong learners who learn, love and live their spiritual and academic experience in every aspect of their lives as community leaders, collaborators, educators, and ambassadors of knowledge. Our students are being prepared to be able to share and model values of the Prophetic vision as a way to become visionaries themselves.

The school is anticipating 200 students during the 24-25 school year, PK – 12.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a dynamic Principal who embodies our missions and values, has a track-record of proven success, and is ready to take on an advanced leadership role.

The leader in this role will:

Visionary Leadership (20% of time)

● Preserve and promote the vision, mission, and core values of Universal School ● Work with an Executive Leadership team and Board of Directors to develop a strategic vision, create an implementation plan to accomplish it, and adapt to internal and external changes as needed ● Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set clear academic, growth, operational, and financial goals that propel the school forward ● Maintain responsibilities to the Board of Directors to include: providing guidance to the Board through the lens of a school leader and providing regular updates and reports ● Implement effective accountability systems to assess and drive progress toward accreditation goals and key strategic priorities ● Serve as a liaison to the broader Buffalo, New York, and national educational community to champion our work and build a network of supporters ● Build a network which reflects diverse perspectives, promotes a positive, safe and caring climate for learning, deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds and communicates effectively with students, staff and parents ● Coach and evaluate other staff in leadership development

School Leader (40% Administration and 40% Instructional Support)

● Establish an Islamically grounded, positive, socially, and culturally responsive, achievement oriented school culture ● Provide leadership and direction to staff (including program coordinators, managers, consultants, administrative assistant, and all teachers) ● Ensure frequent analysis of the effectiveness of curriculum and instruction ● Conduct data review meetings with grade level teams throughout the year ● Monitor the effectiveness of grade-level planning meetings ● Oversee all professional development provided to staff ● Chair the School Safety Committee ● Support the Director of Operations in developing effective and efficient school operations ● Creates and develops procedures and processes that facilitate meeting the mission and goals of the school ● Build strong relationships with the community, families, students, and staff to ensure collective investment in our social and instructional priorities, initiatives, and expectations ● Ensure the school campus is compliant with federal, state and local requirements ● Hire and retain high-quality team members that reflect our mission and values ● Regularly evaluate the performance of your teachers and other school employees and coach them on their individual development ● Responsible for school budgetary planning and business operations ● Collaborate with school team to plan, coordinate, and support family communications, meetings, and special events ● Regularly monitor school, student, and staff performance data; and make appropriate, data-driven decisions to achieve school goals ● Collaborate with school staff to maximize the ability of the school to support students’ academic and social-emotional development What We Look For We want a leader who: ● Has proven a proven-track record in successfully leading others and delivering positive results and outcomes for students and families ● Leads with high integrity and is committed to the social, emotional, and academic needs of students ● Maintains an environment where parents are welcome and valued partners in their child’s education ● Values the importance of the principal as instructional leader and is able to work with staff to improve teaching and learning ● Is a strategic-thinker that possesses the insight needed to accomplish the school’s vision and goals ● Has experience managing budgets, creating and implementing policies and a demonstrated ability in creating and managing systems ● Possesses strong collaboration and teamwork skills ● Has excellent oral and written communication skills ● Thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is responds with agility as needed ● Has a growth mindset and uses feedback to improve practice ● Builds relationships with others and has the ability to coalesce and build consensus from disparate points of view ● Uses creative and critical problem solving and decision-making skills to create solutions

Minimum Qualifications

● Practicing Sunni Muslim

● Five years or more of successful experience as a classroom teacher

● Three years or more of prior administrative leadership experience

● Knowledge of current educational practices, research and application

● Master’s Degree in Education

● Prefer: New York State Administrator & Supervisor certificate or equivalent

Salary range: $60,000 – $75,000.
