ISLA is calling upon all Islamic schools in the United States to make their campuses Apartheid Free Zones.
CALL TO BDS:
The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement was inspired by South Africa’s anti-
apartheid movement and it intends to challenge support for Israeli apartheid through economic
pressure. We are encouraging Islamic schools across America to stand up against oppression
through their economic choices by severing ties with companies that support apartheid.
COMPLICIT IN APARTHEID
One key company that Islamic schools may do business with is Hewlett Packard (HP).
How is HP complicit?
- Provides computer hardware to the Israeli army
- Maintains data centers through their servers for the Israeli police
ACTIONS TO CONSIDER:
- Cancel any existing contracts with the above-mentioned companies
- Inform companies via an agent or customer service the reason for contract cancellation– You are cutting ties with companies complicit in apartheid and establishing an Apartheid Free Zone
- If you are working with a vendor, especially in the case of HP, please request non-HP products and services.
- If you already own HP products (printers, copiers, etc)
a) Consider donating or selling these products and replace them with alternatives, or
b) Buy HP-compatible maintenance products (ink, toner, paper, etc) - Don’t have any ties with the above companies? Wonderful! Keep it up and encourage other educational institutions to participate in this effort.
