Hikmah Co-Op is a vibrant learning community committed to fostering educational excellence and character development in our students. We are in Brentwood, California, serving a diverse student body, and are committed to providing inclusive education tailored to individual needs. We focus on teaching the fundamentals of Tawheed throughout our courses. We are currently a Co-Op that consistently cannot accommodate our waitlist. We are in high demand and are in the process of transitioning to a full private school over the next two years.
Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Middle School Language Arts Teacher who specializes in teaching students for whom English is not the primary language. This role requires a compassionate educator who can deliver California State Standards-based curriculum while addressing the unique challenges faced by ESL learners. The successful candidate will be a patient individual, eager to work collaboratively with a dynamic team, and contribute to the development and continual improvement of school-wide academic standards.
Responsibilities:
– Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences and align with the California State Standards.
– Develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives specific to ESL students.
– Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, attainment, and behavior of students.
– Provide appropriate feedback on work and encourage student growth.
– Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
– Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
– Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws and school policies.
– Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
– Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
– Help establish and refine school standards and practices that will have a lasting impact beyond the tenure.
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s Degree in Education, English, or a related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
– Valid teaching credential or certification Preferred.
– Proven experience teaching Language Arts to middle school students, with specific expertise in teaching ESL learners.
– Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
– Strong recommendations and positive references.
