About MuslimMommyblog.

My name is Shifa Saltagi Safadi, and I am a Muslim Author, Book reviewer, and Islamic School English teacher.

I founded my page to offer a variety of services for specifically Muslim Schools. As a Muslim Syrian who immigrated with my parents to America as a young girl, I grew up in Islamic Schools. And I remember what it was like to love books but never see Muslim characters, or if anything we were the villains in books, unfortunately. I also remember struggling to reconcile who I was
and where I belonged in America as a Muslim. And now as a mom, I feel the very real fear of my children growing up with a weak identity.

So, I wanted to serve this need.

As an author, I write books to provide halal and strong Muslim characters for children to be proud of. I studied writing intensively in order to write the best quality books, as unfortunately, many Muslim books published in the last decade seemed to lack writing skills and so feel boring for kids. And I am proud to announce that I have three published picture books and a Middle-Grade book coming out in September; KAREEM BETWEEN, from the largest American publisher, Penguin Random House, Insh’aAllah.

I hope to provide Islamic schools with book recommendations tailored to their audience. I know the fear of haram content in books- and I founded @MuslimMommyblog on Instagram when I saw the books that do not represent Islam accurately. My page reviews Muslim books and only recommends those that are both high quality, as well as halal representation according to the Islamic values Muslims strive for.

I offer literacy workshops for parents of Islamic schools to help encourage reading through an Islamic lens and provide important statistics on just how important reading is to establish academic success for kids. I can also offer services from fellow Muslim reviewers on curating an Islamic library at a Masjid and Islamic school.

As a teacher, I hope to encourage young students to read and also to write. I offer school visits where I read my books, offer questions and answer sessions on being an author, and also offer a special writing workshop for Middle and High School students that will help them develop their own goals for becoming Muslim authors.

Please consider checking out my website www.shifasafadi.com for more details on my upcoming books and services. And subscribe to my email list on my site to keep up with updates, because soon, I am partnering with my favorite Muslim Book Store- Crescent Moon Bookstore- to bring Islamic Schools discounted bundles of my books that will come with free virtual visits!
