Education/Certification:

  • Acceptance and understanding of the school mission
  • Master’s degree or higher, preferably in related field

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of school operations
  • Strong organizational, communication (written and oral) skills in English,, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coordinate campus support operations

Experience:

  • Administrative and leadership work experience
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills in English
  • Proficient computer skills

Primary Purpose:

Assist the school principal in overall administration of instructional program and campus level operations in a manner that supports a learning environment that maximizes the potential of each student. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  • Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
  • Serve as the campus testing coordinator.
  • Arrange for and manage substitute teachers
  • Maintain student discipline (white slips, meeting with students, maintaining records, etc.)

  • Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Create, maintain, and support a learning environment that is academically, emotionally, and physically safe.

  • Participate in development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members
  • Help principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain and track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

Personnel Management

  • Observe employee performance, record observation, and conduct evaluation conferences. Serve as second appraiser for the designated teacher appraisal system.
  • Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management

  • Embrace shared leadership and collaboration with administrative staff and teachers.
  • Supervise operations in the principal’s absence.
  • Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
  • Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance clerk on followup investigations.
  • Work with department heads and faculty to compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
  • Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
  • Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
  • Maintain and manage school records, attendance, report cards and discipline
  • Foster respectful relations and professionalism in a nurturing environment
  • Network, market, and advocate for the school
  • Commit to educating the whole child in a diverse environment
  • Other duties as needed or assigned

Student Management

  • Ability to make decisions based on what is best for students.
  • Treat students, parents, and community members with respect.
  • Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
  • Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and supports learning.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.

School/Community Relations

  • Embrace and promote cultural diversity on campus and in the community.
  • Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing its mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with the school principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Occasional district wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
